Skateboarding Offers Great Benefits For Kids

When you look at a picture of your average skateboarder, their appearance may not always be pleasant to some people. As they thing it is reserved for mostly the younger crowd, who do not get along with family or other people and stick to themselves.
There may be a little truth in this, but it is no different from any other sport that is out there like basketball or football. Football players hang out together and so do skateboarders, and if you are a skateboarder that is what you are usually identified as.
Let us take a look at all of the good things that come out of skateboarding, especially for the kids. Instead of playing video games and being a couch potato, they could be outside being physically active. Laziness is not a good thing to teach your kids.
Now there are some minimal dangers that are involved in skateboarding, but nothing compared to long term health risks of inactivity. Skateboarding will keep you in shape, and if you start at a your age it will just benefit the physical fitness of the years that are ahead.
Skateboarding also offers a great opportunity for kids to make friends. Everyone knows that a good friend isn’t easy to come by, and that is why it is great for kids to enjoy a safe and healthy activity like skateboarding because it helps them improve social and relational skills greatly. Not every kid is cut out to play the sports that our mainstream culture glorifies, and choosing skateboarding instead can be a great alternative for many kids.
Skateboarding is not the cheapest sport for a kid to take part in, but by far it is not the most expensive either. You can find a fully assembled deck for under a hundred bucks, knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet for around 20 dollars, and shoes from about 30 dollars. There are lots of free skate parks that are out there world wide also.
So forget the bad picture of skateboarding that so many people have had, and allow your children to get involved in an activity that will promote health, friendships, and identity. And plus, the more time your children are outside practicing skateboarding the more quiet time you can enjoy without them!
